Song Review: Dictum Meum Pactum

If Hope Dies live @ Mahakalfest 2011

To begin with, as a band’s first official released single; this is a very polished endeavor that fans leaning towards  metal-core, post-hardcore, Djent and the likes of death-core should check this out.

IF HOPE DIES is a Siliguri based band formed in 2010. After the release of this supreme single “Dictum Meum Pactum” earlier this year, the band is now seeing more exposure than it was initially. This song is made up of different vocals style – grunting, growling, pig squealing and even cleaner vocals. The hook of this song is the intro, showcasing Justin Bieber’s famous song “let me tell you one time” crushed!! with layers of mean riffing which sets a decent get-away into the actual song, where “Dictum Meum Pactum” comes alive and gets down to the business of melding polyrhythmic attacks alongside the right mix of structural breaks to create a mood and gives the song a variety.

The most notable component of the song is the fact that the band utilizes non-genre specific influences. Instead, this release sees the band’s embrace multiple musical elements to present 6 minutes of pummeling flames of thundering rasp, growls, inspiring sing alongs and lyrics that speak to a scene that is quickly growing tired of insincerity. “Dictum Meum Pactum” proves to provide an accurate sound to the energy and shows us that If Hope Dies are ready to put their own stamp on the world of heavy music.
